Is it okay to apply steroid cream to irritated skin area during pregnancy?

I have had this problem for 2 years. The itch in my pubic area that comes and goes, but when it itches, it is so unbearable that I need to use steroid ointment, then it goes away. Is it possible to use steroid cream during pregnancy? If it's a small amount? Is it okay to apply steroid cream to irritated skin area during pregnancy?
my OB ok'd the mild hydrocortisone 0.5% in pregnancy, but ask your doctor first. This sounds like it could be jock itch, or a yeast infection of the skin. In women, if the outer genital region itches, they treat it vaginally with an antifungal kit (like Canestan or Monistat), even though you don't feel itchy inside. If it's just the groin (like closer to your inner thighs and not your genital region), then applying Canestan or Monistat external cream on its own can cure the infection.

Steroid creams are anti-inflammatory, they will help symptoms but they can mask infections. Definitly this is a question for your doctor so you are sure of a diagnosis. Don't use any steroid or over-the-counter kit until you check with him/her.

That would be something for your docotor to answer. You could even ask the pharmacist. They are trained to know side effects and reprocutions of medications to the fetus. It always depends on the type of cream and the strength of the steroid.
